Community Softball

The philosophy of the Vernon Hills Community Baseball and Softball Program is to increase the players' confidence and self-esteem; help them develop an understanding of the value of teamwork, honesty, courage, respect for authority and good sportsmanship; and maximize the potential of each player's skill and knowledge of the game of softball.


Ages

What aged players are appropriate for this program?

Our Community Softball League is open to all current (2025-2026 grade level) kindergarten through senior in high school participants. When choosing your age level be sure to look based on their CURRENT (2025-2026) grade.

Freshman

  • Ages for this program are current Kindergarten - 2nd grade
  • Part Coach/ Part Kid Pitch - Skill Development Focus (Throwing, Catching, Fielding, Hitting)
  • 12 - 14 games scheduled
  • Teams formed by friend/school requests.
  • Games will be primarily Tuesdays & Saturdays (Note: Some Sundays will be scheduled for rainouts)

Sophomore

  • Ages for this program are current 3rd and 4th grade
  • Mostly kid pitch / part coach pitch
  • 14 -16 games scheduled
  • Games primarily played on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Some makeup games may be scheduled on Sundays.
  • Teams formed by coach selection with friend/school requests considered but not guaranteed

Juniors

  • Ages for this program are current 5th - 6th grade
  • 14 - 16 games 
  • Games will be played on Thursdays and Saturdays. Some makeup games may be scheduled on Sundays.
  • Teams formed by coach selection with friend/school requests considered but not guaranteed

Seniors

  • Ages for this program are current 7th - 12th grade
  • 14 - 16 games scheduled
  • Games will be played on a mix of Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
  • Teams formed by coach selection with friend/school requests considered but not guaranteed
  • Please note that practices still begin at the same time as the rest of our age levels but regular season games don't start until after the high school season finishes to allow those athletes to participate. This age group plays more games each week to make up for the later start to games.

Freshman - $185

Sophomore - $220

Juniors - $245

Seniors - $245

Evaluation Day: March 1st

Teams Formed: Mid March

Practices Start: Early April

Regular Season: Early May through Early July

*note seniors different start time below

Playoffs: Early to mid July

*Seniors will start regular season games mid to late May after the High School season. Season still ends mid July.

Practice and Game Locations

Practices are held at various Vernon Hills Park District Fields as well as VHAC. Home games are also played at Vernon Hills Park District Fields and VHAC. Each team also plays 6-8 away games at fields in Mundelein, Libertyville, Lake Forest, and Gurnee.

Uniform

INCLUDED WITH YOUR PROGRAM FEE: Each girl will receive a jersey with their name and number on it, a pair of softball pants, a pair of softball socks, and a practice t-shirt

Uniforms are included with the payment of the program fee.

Games

Our league consists of teams from our community as well as neighboring communities (Libertyville, Mundelein, Lake Forest, and Warren) and all levels play teams from neighboring communities.

Number of games are as follows:

Freshman - 12 to 14 Games

Sophomore - 14 to 16 Games

Juniors - 14 to 16 Games

Seniors - 14 to 16 Games


Refund Policy

We CANNOT issue a refund once uniforms are ordered and teams are formed.

All board members and coaches are volunteering their time to make this a great experience for your child every season.
